This weekend I was planning to bring you the mother of all winter giveaways. But unfortunately my ebay order placed a month ago is still not here, and now the seller stopped replying to my messages. Oh well... That will teach me.

So instead of holiday cheer, I'm bringing you today yet another Korean cushion foundation review.
What? Why are you so surprised?

It's been scientifically proven (ok, maybe not exactly scientifically, but through a very detailed credit card statement analysis) that I will buy anything that even remotely resembles a cushion.

If you are new to cushion foundations, may I suggest that you check out the "cushion foundations" tab in the main menu first?

In addition to "standard" cushions, I also have a metal cushion, a do it yourself cushion, a "let's pretend it's a cushion" cushion, and a cushion that isn't a cushion at all.
Today's cushion falls somewhere between a pretend cushion and a "no cushion at all" cushion. (I wonder how many times I can get away with using the word "cushion" in one sentence, hmmm...)

My brain has been having a hard time with the X2D2 logo. It keeps reading it as R2D2 instead. And those holographic colors make me think of light sabers. Sorry, I can't help it.

The tiny print on the back of the box proudly says "LG Household and Health Care". That's not a mistake. Yes, it's the same LG as your phone or your TV. And Isa Knox is not the only cosmetic brand with the LG logo. This elite group includes su:m37, O Hui, Sooryehan, The History of Whoo, and a bunch of others.

As you can see the box contains 13 grams of product, and there is no refill. The color is designated as "21" variously translated as "soft skin beige", or "skin beige", or even as "nudy beige" as I've seen somewhere.

That's all that was in the box. Just a pretty compact and a piece of paper in Korean.

Fortunately on them innernets you can find just about anything you can dream of (along with a slew of things that you'd rather not), and a quick search for R2D2, oh pardon moi, X2D2, did bring some answers.

X2D2 is being described as an anti-ageing product line that can magically halve your skin's natural age. I'm sold. Where do I sign up? You want my soul in return? No problem. I'll throw in a couple of 12 year old virgins and a bag of pixie dust gratis. Anything for young skin! Oh wait... where am I going to find 12 year old virgins... Sorry, my soul will have to do.

Anyway, where was I? Ah yes... Halving my skin's age. That's what this X2D2 line is supposed to do by combating wrinkles, dark spots and dryness.
I'm going to take a look at more X2D2 products when I get a chance (read - when I finally manage to bring my raging cushion habit under control).

At first I thought that the compact lid was broken, but no, the shiny ring is indeed a bit lopsided.
The compact is very pretty and quite heavy. That was the first giveaway that what's hiding inside is not a true cushion.


Na poczatku myslalam, ze kompakt byl uszkodzony, ale nie. Jest taki z dizajnu niesymetryczny. Jest tez ciut ciezkawy. To bylo pierwszym znakiem, ze w srodku bedzie cos innego niz standardowa poduszka.

The sponge isn't a cushion sponge either. This is a normal cake foundation sponge, not the usual high tech cushion sponge magical gizmo.

I was surprised, I admit it. I wasn't sure what I expected but perhaps something closer to a true cushion.
This is almost exactly what Esprique Smooth on Liquid stamping foundation is trying to imitate (albeit in a very primitive manner). However as Esprique fails to deliver, Isa Knox X2D2 Air Net Cover Sun shows her strengths.

It looks to me that it all comes down to which type of foundation is more suited for this style of application. Esprique went with a thick liquid. Isa Knox chose a buttery cake. Isa Knox won.

The foundation is covered with a plastic mesh net.

Wychodzi na to, ze wszystko zalezy od formy podkladu najbardziej odpowiedniej do tego typu aplikacji. Esprique poszedl za gestym fluidem. Isa Knox wybrala kremowa maz. Isa Knox wygrala.

And closer to a satiny, soft, definitely not shiny, most definitely not dewy, glorious finish:

As you can see that color is not all mine. But that's besides the point. The point is what it does. And what it does is giving you a semi-matte finish. Seriously, no shine. Seriously no wet glow. Seriously, just perfect satin with a very impressive staying power.
So while not a true cushion, it's a winner in its own right.

Sadly, the color is not what I expected. It's much too yellow for me.
It pisses me off to no end that despite being labeled as "21" this shade is waaaay much more yellow than Iope Air Cushion 21. As Iope did have pink undertones, miss Knox is just yellow.

Some internet sellers put a disclaimer that this color is more suited for Asian skin tone, but not the site where I bought it. And to be honest, I'm glad they didn't. Otherwise you would have never known that you can get a non-glowy finish from a Korean foundation.


Jak widac kolor nie do konca moj. Ale to nie jest tu najwazniejsze. Najwazniejsze jest to, co ten podklad robi. A raczej czego nie robi. Nie robi mokrego swiecenia. Zero glow. Daje piekne pol-matowe, satynowe wykonczenie, ktore trzyma sie fenomenalnie, nawet bez bazy.
Wiec, mimo, ze nie prawdziwa poduszka, to jednak, jak to mowia, jest moc.

Niestety, ten kolor jest zbyt zolty dla mnie.
Wkurza mnie strasznie, ze to co jest "21" w jednej firmie jest zupelnie inne niz "21" w drugiej firmie. Iope Air Cushion 21 jest bardziej rozowe i daje rade na mojej cerze. Ale panna Knox wpada w zolte podtony.

Niektorzy sprzedawcy internetowi ostrzegaja, ze to jest odcien bardziej odpowiedni dla azjatyckiej kolorystyki. Ale nie ten sprzedawca, gdzie ja kupowalam. W sumie to dobrze, ze nie ostrzegali. Inaczej nigdy bym nie kupila, i nie wiedzielibyscie, ze mozna uzyskac nie-glow z koreanskim podkladem.

This foundation put me in a huge bind. I have been thinking for a long time what to do with it. On one hand I love what it does and want to keep it. On the other, it's definitely much too yellow for me.
Ultimately I've decided it's best to find it a new home.

Several internet shops offer this cushion. It's been discontinued by the company, so the prices vary hugely, from ridiculously expensive to quite reasonable. I bought mine from TGI Wholesale, which had the lowest price of all. And no, you don't have to buy wholesale from them. You can buy individual items as well.


Ten podklad postawil mnie przed bardzo trudna decyzja. Myslalam i myslalam co z nim zrobic. Z jednej strony bardzo mi sie podoba to co robi. Z drugiej strony, jest dla mnie zbyt zolty.

Kilka sklepow internetowych ma ten podklad w sprzedazy. Isa Knox juz ich nie produkuje, i wobec tego ceny sa bardzo zroznicowane, z przewaga tych drozszych. Ja robilam moje zakupy w TGI Wholesale, gdzie cena tego podkladu byla chyba najnizsza. I wcale nie trzeba kupowac u nich hurtem, po jednej sztuce tez sprzedaja. Ceny maja atrakcyjne, ale jak zawsze, warto porownywac.

Canmake Can't

As Asian cosmetics are growing in popularity overseas, many people in their blind adoration of anything labeled "made in Japan" or "made in Korea" tend to forget that Japan and Korea are just normal countries. With normal drugstores. Full of normal products.

And just like anywhere else in the world, some of these products are worse than others. And some are really tragic. But most fall somewhere between "meh" and "that'll do" for local women. Nothing extraordinary. Nothing magical. And certainly nothing special.

Some of these products are very cheap and pretty much useless, but have cute packaging. Some of these products are very cheap and pretty much useless and are sold in local equivalent of dollar stores. Yet you'd be surprised to see how many of these 100 yen (now it's 108 yen) "cosmetic" products are reviewed on foreign blogs with a sense of pride, because "hey, look at me, I have a Japanese eyeshadow".

Does that mean that all cheap brands are nothing but junk? Of course not. But they certainly won't be found at Daiso (Daiso is a popular 100 yen store chain).

Azjatyckie kosmetyki staja sie coraz popularniejsze na swiecie, ale bardzo wiele osob zaslepionych slowami "made in Japan" lub "made in Korea" zachwyca sie wszystkim jak leci, zapominajac przy tym, ze Japonia i Korea to kraje jak kazdy inny. Z drogeriami. Pelnymi zwyklych drogeryjnych kosmetykow.

I tak jak wszedzie indziej na swiecie, te kosmetyki moga byc gorsze lub lepsze. Niektore sa po prostu tragiczne. Ale wiekszosc wypada gdzies pomiedzy "ble" i "moze byc" dla tubylcznych kobiet.Nic szczegolnego. Nic magicznego. I nic specjalnego.

Niektore z tych kosmetykow sa niesamowicie tanie i bezuzyteczne. Ale moga miec slitasne opakowania. Niektore z tych kosmetykow sa niesamowicie tanie i mozna je nabyc w tutejszych odpowiednikach funciakow. Ale czasem dziwi mnie, jak wiele tych dyskontowych "kosmetykow" jest recenzowanych na zagranicznych blogach z pelna powaga i niemal duma "pacz ty no na mnie, mam japonski cien."

Czy znaczy to, ze wszystkie tanie marki to smiecie? Oczywiscie, ze nie. Ale nie beda one w sprzedazy w Daiso (najpopularniejsza sieciowka sklepow z rzeczami za 100 jenow).

The level of tolerable junkiness varies from person to person. What is acceptable to one may be utter garbage to another.
And one brand that elicits such a wide and extreme range of cosmetic emotions is Canmake. Or rather - Canmake Tokyo made by Ida Laboratories.

As you can see on its website, Canmake Tokyo offers a crazy wide range of products, from nail polish to well... anything really. If you can put it on your face, chances are they have it. In several varieties, no less.

The packaging is usually very cute, the products (with a few exceptions) mediocre (to put it nicely) and its main selling point? The stuff is cheap. Canmake prices can't be beat. It's as low as you can go and still stay a "respectable" drugstore brand.

Kazdy ma inne granice tolerancji. Co dla niektorych moze byc smieciem, dla innych jest wspanialym kosmetykiem.
I jedna marka, ktora wywoluje takie skrajne opinie to Canmake. Albo wlasciwie - Canmake Tokyo produkowanych przez Ida Laboratories.

Jak widac na ich stronie internetowej, Canmake Tokyo oferuje niesamowita roznorodnosc kosmetykow. Wszystko od lakierow do paznokci po... no wszystko. Jesli da sie tym pomazac po twarzy, oczach lub ustach, to Canmake bedzie to mial w swojej ofercie. I na pewno w kilku roznych odmianach.

Opakowania sa z reguly slodziutkie, kosmetyki - przecietne. A ich najwieksza zaleta? Cena. Tu Canmake kroluje. Idzie tak nisko jak tylko sie da pchajac granice przyzwoitosci cenowej w rejony niemal funciakowe.

Canmake tempts with colorful displays and rock bottom prices. If a more mid-price but still lower end brand releases a new cheek color, Canmake will do the same. Only cheaper.

I have a few Canmake products. They are very hit or miss.

The nail polishes are, for the most part, pretty OK. Can't vouch for all the colors, but these ones here are what they are - no frills basic nail colors that don't cost a fortune.
I like them.

And maybe I would have left it at that but in last year's Cosme (a very influential Japanese beauty portal) ranking a couple of Canmake products got top honors.

Needless to say, I was curious.

Canmake Eyeshadow Base, Marshmallow Finish Powder, Quick Lash Curler mascara, Cream Cheek blush gel, Stay-On Balm Rouge lipstick, Candy Wrap Lip lipgloss were all voted in the top three in their respective categories.

So went shopping, and this is what I got:

Lakiery sa w porzadku. Nie wiem jak w przypadku wszystkich kolorow, ale te ktore mam nie sprawiaja problemow. Nie mam im nic do zarzucenia.

I pewnia na lakierach by sie skonczylo, gdyby nie to, ze w rankingu kosmetycznym organizowanych przez portal Cosme, w zeszlym roku widnialo cale stado Canmake'ow. W roznych kategoriach.
Ciekawosc zwyciezyla.

Canmake Eyeshadow Base baza pod cienie , Marshmallow Finish Powder, Quick Lash Curler tusz, Cream Cheek zelowy roz, Stay-On Balm Rouge pomadka, Candy Wrap Lip blyszczyk znalazly sie w owym zestawieniu najlepszych kosmetykow na rok 2013.

Wiec poszlam na zakupy. I to co kupilam tutaj:

I also had the Lasting Multi Eye Base WP, but it was so tragic, it ended its life in the garbage. it made my eyelids look like two pieces of very wrinkled foreskin.

The Stay-On Balm surprised me. In a good way. The lip gloss is OK, considering the price. The eyeshadow set is a joke. So is the highly rated Eyeshadow Base. The color stick for the face is quite dreadful, too.

I am happy with these guys:

Pomadka Stay-On Balm zaskoczyla mnie bardzo pozytywnie. Nie to balsam, ni to pomadka. Nie wysusza, nie zbiera sie w zalamaniach, trwalosc niska, ale nie oszukujmy sie, za taka cene nie ma na co  narzekac. Blyszczyk jest rowniez w porzadku.
Cienie to jakis dowcip. Rowniez ta inna wesja bazy pod cienie.
To cus do twarzy, ni to korektor, ni to rozswietlacz ni to patyk do konturowania nie nadaje sie do zadnej z tych rzeczy. To wlasniego jego zaczela uzywac jako bazy pod cienie i tam w koncu sie sprawdza.

Z kosmetykow ponizej jestem bardzo zadowolona:

They do what they're supposed to, but it's hard to believe they placed in the top three in their respective category in the yearly sum up. Truly? This is the best that Japan had to offer?

While they were OK products, I will not purchase any more Canmake items in the future.
I simply don't think it's worth it.
Why?

Robia to co powinny, ale az nie chce mi sie wierzyc, ze wdrapaly sie do top 3 najlepszych kosmetykow w swoich kategoriach. Smiac sie chce, ze ktos moglby na serio pomyslec, ze to najlepsze co Japonia ma do zaoferowania.

O ile z tych mazidel do ust jestem zadowolona, to nie kupie juz zadnych kosmetykow Canmake z przyszlosc. Uwazam, ze ogolnie, to strata czasu i tych paru jenow.

Dlaczego?

Extremely poor quality packaging, that's why.

The lids on the base and the eyeshadow broke off almost immediately. This is the only Japanese brand where it has happened to me. The lipstick mechanism broke almost immediately too.

I understand this is a low cost brand. I shouldn't expect high quality packaging. Yet there are other budget brands in Japanese drugstores that can make a bit more sturdy products. But Canmake can't.
Sad.

It's very disappointing. I gave Canmake an honest try, and while the cosmetics themselves were hit or miss, the poor quality packaging was definitely a miss. A very big miss. A miss big enough to keep me away from Canmake for the time being.

Jakos moga to zrobic. Canmake nie moze. No coz.

To bardzo rozczarowujace. Dalam Canmake szanse, i o ile zawartosci opakowan byly zroznicowane, to niska jakosc samych opakowan skutecznie mnie odpycha. Odpycha dosyc daleko, do tego.

Wiec na chwile obecna to koniec mojej przygody z Canmake Tokyo.

I am normally very strong. I can resist. At least I thought so. Until one sleepless night I met the absolutely gorgeous Verite UV Multicushion DX SPF50+ / PA+++. It was love at first sight. I had to have her.

Wiesz dokladnie o czym pisze. Nie udawaj, ze nigdy cie to nie spotkalo.
Kazda z nas miala kiedys w zyciu taka chwile.

Niektore z nas opieraja sie pokuszeniu. Inne probuja sie opierac. A jeszcze inne oddaja sie pozadaniu bez chwili namyslu. Namyslac sie mozna bedzie jak rachunek karty przyjdzie do zaplacenia.

Ja zazwyczaj sie opieram. Pokusy mi nie straszne. Tak przynajmniej myslalam dopoki pewnej nocy nie spotkalam absolutnie przepieknej Verite UV Multicushion DX SPF 50+ / PA+++. To byla milosc od pierwszego wejrzenia. Musialam ja miec.

I had seen her older sister around, the multicushion without "dx", the one in a shiny box. Oh how I detest shiny boxes. That was the reason I didn't buy it.

But the awesome folks at Verite must have been psychic, and made a cushion just for me. Or at least they packaged it in a box just for me.
In a simple, no frills, plain box without any unnecessary embellishments.

Widzialam jej starsza siostre w odmetach internetu, ta multicushion bez "dx" w nazwie, ta w swiecacym zlota folia pudelku. Jak ja nienawidze takich pudelek. Nie kupilam jej.

Ale ludzie w Verite chyba sa telepatami, bo zrobili poduszke w sam raz dla mnie. Albo przynajmniej, zapakowana w pudelko w sam raz dla mnie.
W proste, zwykle pudelko bez udziwnien.

Unfortunately, they were not psychic enough to make a perfect shade for me. But oh well, we can't have it all.

Oddly enough, this DX cushion wasn't that easy to find that fateful night when I lost my senses. I couldn't figure out why. It was just a cushion, for crying out loud. Why was it out of stock everywhere I tried?

As it turned out, it was out of stock, because it was selling like gangbusters.
Why?
It received the Best Cushion award in the 8th Allure Korea Best of Beauty 2014 lineup. (The other Best Cushion went to Iope XP.)

I finally managed to order my Verite UV Multicushion DX on ebay and a few days later I saw a post on Agathblog about the Allure Korea Best of Beauty awards.

Niestety nie byli na tyle telepatyczni, aby zrobic odcien idealny dla mnie. No ale coz, nie mozemy miec wszystkiego na raz.

Najdziwniejsze bylo to, ze wcale nie tak latwo bylo ta DX znalezc owej nocy. Nie moglam zrozumiec dlaczego. To przeciez tylko podklad w poduszce. Ale wszedzie byl wyprzedany.

Jak sie okazalo byl wyprzedany, bo sprzedawal sie jak szalony. Dlaczego? Bo zostal wybrany jako najlepsza poduszka w 8 edycji Allure Korea Best of Beauty 2014. (Druga najlepsza poduszka to Iope XP.)
W koncu udalo mi sie ja znalezc na ebayu, a zaraz potem zobaczylam wpis na Agathblog o Allure Korea Best of Beauty awards.

There's a compact with 15 grams of foundation in it, a refill set with another 15 grams and a Korean language leaflet.

The compact reminds me of Hanyul. But as Hanyul was black and white and classy, this thing here is gold and white, with that tacky nouveau riche feel to it.

Mamy kompakt z 15 gramami podkladu, refill z 15 gramami, i ulotke po koreansku.
Kompakt przypomina mi Hanyula. Ale Hanyul byl bialo-czarny, ten tutaj jest bialo-zloty.

#21 Cover Vanilla was the shade I purchased. No, it doesn't mean there are 21 shades available. Quite the opposite, in fact. From what I could understand (but granted, it was all in Korean, so not that much), there are only 2 shades out there: 21 and 23. Both are of the "C" type - meaning "cover".

Kupilam odcien numer 21 - Cover Vanilla (kryjaca wanilia). Numer 21 wcale nie znaczy, ze jest dostepnych 21 odcieni. Wrecz przeciwnie. Z tego co moglam zrozumiec, to odcienie sa dwa: 21 i 23. Oba sa typu "C", czyli kryjace.

Shade #21 is known as "Cover Vanilla". Shade #23 is "Cover Beige".

And here is where it gets funky.

It's my first true "cover" type cushion, and yes, indeed, it does cover.
The coverage is a lot more substantial than Iope N21 (natural type cushion).

It's also a lot more glowing. According to my eyes, it's not wet, not shiny, but just glowing.

Odcien 21 to Cover Vanilla. Odcien 23 to Cover Beige (kryjacy bez).
I tutaj sie zdziwilam.
To moja pierwsza z prawdziwego zdarzenia poduszka typu "kryjacego", i musze przyznac, ze faktycznie, kryje.
Kryje o wiele lepiej niz Iope N21. "N" znaczy rodzaj naturalny, czyli bardziej poduszka tonujaca?

Daje tez glow. Duzo glow. Nie mokrosc, nie tlustosc, ale wlasnie glow.

Verite is just one of the many brands belonging to Amore Pacific (the makers of Hera, Sulwhasoo, Iope and Hanyul, all of which I have reviewed already, click on the "Cushion Foundations" tab in the menu above to read more) and knowing that, you are prepared for a certain level of quality.

The cushion sets the bar pretty high.
It claims that it's an all-in-one product that functions as:

Moisturizer Essence + Whitening Essence + Sunscreen + Primer + Make-up Base + Cover Foundation + Luminous effect + Cooling Mist.

Wow! you got all that? The only thing missing is bringing world peace and curing cancer.
I guess for those two I'll have to wait until the new version is released sometime next year.

Verite to kolejna marka ze stajni Amore Pacific (tak samo jak Hera, Sulwhasoo, Iope i Hanyul, ktore wszystkie juz recenzowalam, kliknij na "Cushion Foundations" w menu), i wiedzac to, jestesmy przygotowani na pewien poziom jakosciowy.

Ta poducha postawila sobie poprzeczke bardzo wysoko.
Twierdzi, ze robi to wszystko naraz:

Nawilzajaca esencja + Rozjasniajaca esencja + Filtr UV + Primer + Baza + Podklad + Efekt rozswietlajacy + Mgielka chlodzaca.

No cuda na kiju po prostu. Tylko pokoju na swiecie i lekarstwa na raka w tym zestawie brakuje. Pewnie te dwa znajda sie w nastepnej wesji tej poduchy.

So that's what they promise. What do I say?

Well, I say this - even though this shade (21 in Cover Vanilla) is quite light, it's still too yellow for me. I'm inconsolable. I wanted this cushion to work so badly.

Once applied the foundation doesn't change its color when it oxidizes. It stays even and strong. The coverage is buildable from light to medium to "cover those freakin' zits, will ya?" But if you have lots of zits, you will need an additional corrector.

What surprised me the most was its staying power. Both with and without a primer. I guess the claim of "primer already in" was indeed true.

To mowia oni. A co mowie ja?
Hmmm... mimo, ze ten odcien (21 - Cover Vanilla) jest dosc jasny, to jest on nadal zbyt zolty dla mnie. Jestem niepocieszona. Tak bardzo liczylam na cud. Ale kolor, niestety, nie do konca ten.

Nalozona na twarz, nie zmienia koloru kiedy sie utlenia. Trzyma sie rowno i porzadnie. Krycie mozna stopniowac od lekkiego do sredniego po "zakryj te pryszcze". Ale jak sie ma za duzo pryszczy, to potrzebny bedzie osobny korektor.

Co zaskoczylo mnie najbardziej to jej trwalosc. Z i bez bazy. Mozliwe, ze te przechwalki o "primer i baza juz sa" to prawda.

I wouldn't trust it, however, as a sole sunblock. You simply never put enough foundation on your face to be fully protected from the sun. Use a separate sunblock, please (unless, of course, sun spots and skin cancer are what you're aiming for).

So, to sum it up, Verite UV Multicushion DX is a great cushion foundation with a lovely finish. It gives your face (at least I'm assuming you'll be using it on your face, my apologies if I'm mistaken) a healthy glow that does not look wet or greasy. It has decent coverage, it stays in place longer than most cushion foundations and I'm not surprised anymore that it got the Best Cushion Award. It absolutely deserves it.

The only thing that irritates me here is its smell. It's not unpleasant, oh no! It's a very floral, very "Amore Pacific" fragrance that I am sure will please most people. But if you're sensitive to strong scents, consider yourself warned.

So, where's the catch?
All this sounds too good to be true, right?
Right!

I was on the verge of tears when I saw the swatches on my skin.
It's too dark for me. Too yellow.
I need something with more pinkish undertones.

Nie ufalabym jej jednak jako jedynemu filtrowi. Po prostu nigdy nie kladziemy na twarz tyle podkladu, aby miec wystarczajaca ochrone przed sloncem. Osobny filtr bedzie niezbedny.

W podsumowaniu, Verite UV Multicushion DX to swietna poduszka z bardzo ladnym wykonczeniem. Daje twarzy (bo zakladam, ze to na twarz bedziesz aplikowac, a nie gdzie indziej) zdrowy glow, ktory nie wyglada na mokry, ani na tlusty. Ma dobre krycie, trzyma sie na twarzy dluzej niz wiekszosc poduszek, ktore mialam przyjemnosc testowac i nie dziwie sie, ze dostalo to Best Cushion Award. Nagroda w pelni zasluzona.

Jedyne co mnie wkurza to jej zapach. Taki typowy dla produktow ze stajni Amore Pacific, bardzo kwiatowy. Wiekszosc ludzi powie, ze jest przyjemny, ale dla tych z nas, ktorzy sa wrazliwi na tego typu zapachy, to problem.

Wszystko pieknie, ale gdzie haczyk?
Bo brzmi zbyt dobrze, aby moglo byc prawda.

Ano, niemal plakalam jak zobaczylam swatche na skorze. Ta poducha jest dla mnie zbyt zlota, i ciut za ciemna. Ja potrzebuje czegosc bardziej rozowego.

I found my cushiony soulmate, only to find out it was meant for someone with a slightly more yellowish complexion.

Oh well... live and learn.

I am not a fan of Memebox.
But, first, for those who have been living under a rock in another galaxy, Memebox is a Korean beauty subscription box.
Korean beauty should be right up my alley, right? Right. So why am I not a Memebox fan?

Nie jestem fanka Memeboxa.
Ale najpierw, dla tych, ktorzy do tej pory mieszkali schowani pod kamieniem w galaktyce daleko stad, Memebox jest koreanskim pudelkiem kosmetycznym. Cos jak Glossybox i temu podobne.
Koreanskie kosmetyki powinny byc w sam raz dla mnie, nieprawdaz? Prawdaz.
Wiec dlaczego nie jestem fanka Memeboxa?

Memebox claims (from their US website):

"At Memebox, we’re committed to bringing you only the best - we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait."

Well, no, you're not. And no, you don't.

I've lost all respect for Memebox when I saw PureSmile products in their boxes.
PureSmile is a very (and I mean veeery) low end discount brand, which is widely available here in Japan. You can get it even at Daiso. And sorry, I don't want to purchase a mystery box from Korea with stuff that I can get at my local 100 yen store.

Yes, I've tried PureSmile products - sheet masks, yogurt masks, point pads, hand cream, shampoo, and bb cream, and I think it was enough for me to decide once and for all that this stuff is utter garbage.

Memebox twierdzi (z ich amerykanskiej strony internetowej):

"My, w Memeboxie, obiecujemy Ci, ze dostarczymy Ci tylko to, co najlepsze (w domysle - koreanskie kosmetyki) - bedzie warto na nie poczekac."

(To oddaje ton i tresc obietnicy).

Ale niestety, Memeboksiarze, nie dostarczacie i nie warto.

Ja stracilam wszelki szacunek dla Memeboxa, kiedy zobaczylam w ich pudelkach produkty PureSmile. PureSmile to bardzo (i naprawde baaardzo) dyskontowa marka, ktora jest latwo dostepna w Japonii. W tym rowniez w Daiso. I sorry, ale ja nie chce kupowac pudelka z nieznana mi zawartoscia z Korei, kiedy moge sobie kupic ten sam szajs w lokalnym odpowiedniku funciaka.

Tak, probowalam kosmetykow PureSmile - sheetmaski, maski jogurtowe, point pads, krem do rak, szampon i cos co mialo udawac krem BB, wiec moge ostatecznie stwierdzic, ze jest to, bez dwoch zdan, badziewie totalne. Szkoda mi cery na takie produkty.

Here you have it, a huge bundle of PureSmile masks for only 540 yen. These were two bundles for the price of one.

Memebox gives these products a highly imaginary value (called memevalue) and tah dam! Scores of naive girls jump for joy, because they think they snatched a real Korean beauty bargain in their Memebox.

The few boxes that I had the dubious pleasure of investigating were filled with similar low price, drugstore quality, very mediocre stuff.
I have a drugstore down the road from my house, I don't need to order that stuff from Korea.

Memebox daje produktom w swoich pudelkach bardzo wyimaginowana "memewartosc" i bum! Gromadki naiwnych babek skacza z radosci, ze im sie taka okazja z koreanskimi kosmetykami nawinela.

Te kilka pudelek, ktore mialam watpliwa przyjemnosc macac wypelnione byly typowymi drogeryjnymi produktami, drogeryjnej jakosci, ale o bardzo zawyzonej "memewartosci".
Ja akurat mam drogerie za miedza. Nie potrzebuje zamawiac porownywalnych kosmetykow na slepo (bo nie wiesz co jest w pudelku) z Korei.

In all fairness, there are also gems (like A-True or Whamisa, for example) to be found in Memeboxes. But I don't want to have to order 10 or 20 boxes to find a couple of gems. The math confirms this. If the average price of a box is, let's lowball it and say, US$20, that would mean 200 dollars spent for one product that is truly special. Well, guess what? I'd rather take that 200 dollars and buy a really special product, sans all the additional junk that I don't need and will never use.

And yet, there are women out there who have purchased upwards of 50 Memeboxes. That's over 1000 dollars. And the same women very frequently complain that they have cash flow problems and say they buy Memeboxes, because they can't afford selective brand name skin care. Well, no shit Sherlock!

Ale, musze tez uczciwie powiedziec, ze od czasu do czasu mozna znalezc w tych pudelkach perelki, typu A-True albo Whamisa.
Ale ja nie chce zamawiac na slepo 10 czy 20 pudelek, zeby znalezc jeden czy dwa kosmetyki, ktore by mi odpowiadaly. Matematyka jest po mojej stronie. Jesli przecietne pudelko kosztuje okolo 20 dolarow,  to 10 pudelek wychodzi na 200 dolarow. 200 dolarow za jedna kosmetyczna perelke? Ja wole po prostu wydac to 200 dolarow na cos, z czego wiem, ze bede zadowolona. Bez dodatkowego balastu, ktorego i tak uzywac nie bede.

Ale sa babki, ktore kupily ponad 50 pudelek. To ponad 1000 dolarow. I te same babeczki czesto narzekaja, ze krucho u nich z kasa, i ze kupuja Memeboxy, bo po prostu nie stac ich na kupno selektywnych kosmetykow. LOL! Jasne!

Another thing that struck me while perusing the Memesphere was that it's probably easier to find a virgin in a Turkish whorehouse than an honest, well-balanced, believable Memebox review. Even the boxes that were utter junk were given a positive spin in blog reviews.
You may wonder why? Because the great majority of reviewers are also Memebox affiliates and Memebox rewards them in memepoints (1 point = 1 dollar) for each review. There are also people who get Memeboxes for free to review and thus influence the great unwashed.
How does the proverb go? Don't bite the hand that feeds you? Or somesuch?

Czytajac recenzje Memeboxow w internecie od razu rzucilo mi sie w oczy, ze latwiej chyba trafic na dziewice w tureckim burdelu niz na rzetelna, uczciwa, w miare rzeczowa recenzje pudelka. Nawet te boxy, ktore byly wypelnione gniotami, przedstawiane byly z pozytywnej strony.
Dlaczego? Ano dlatego, ze bardzo duza wiekszosc blogerskich recenzentow jest w programie wspolpracy z Memeboxem i Memebox wynagradza ich recenzje memepunktami (1 punkt = 1 dolar). Oporcz tego sa jeszcze blogerki, ktore dostaja pudelka od Memebox za friko do zrecenzjowania, a przez bycie Memeboxowym autorytetem - do sklonienia mas to kupna pudelka.

Jak to przyslowie idzie? Nie gryz reki, ktora cie karmi? (Nie pamietam polskiego odpowiednika).

But as I'm not an affiliate, nor an influencer, I don't feel obligated to spin a good review if what I got was utter junk.
Because what I got was, indeed, utter junk.

You see, during a momentary lapse of reason, I ordered the All About Brows Memebox.
In my defense, I was mad at Shu Uemura that day.
And I thought it would be impossible to stick a PureSmile product, or two, into a brow-themed box.

I also thought that it would be almost impossible to screw up such a simple theme box. It's just brows, right? But never underestimate the power of Memebox gods.

Ale ja nie jestem w programie blogerskim Memeboxa, nie naleze tez do grona tych, ktorym Memebox wysyla pudelka za darmo do recenzji. Wiec nie czuje presji zachwytow nad czyms, co wedlug mnie, bylo badziewiem.

Bo to wlasnie dostalam w pudelku, ktore zamowilam - badziewie.

Wstyd sie przyznac, ale w chwili slabosci (zacmienia umyslu moze, mielismy wtedy straszne upaly), zamowilam pudelko All About Brows - Wszystko o Brwiach.
Moja wymowka to to, ze tego akurat dnia bylam wsciekla na Shu Uemura.
I pomyslalam sobie, ze Memeboksiarze chyba nie dadza rady wcisnac PureSmile do pudelka dla brwi.

All I wanted was a few eyebrow shaping stencils, a pencil, maybe some filling powder. Nothing extraordinary. I thought that US$19.00 (plus shipping) would cover it. I used an affiliate discount code, paid, and patiently waited for my box. In the meantime I ordered 2 more Memeboxes, which further convinced me that I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

My brow box finally arrived.
And I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Yes, there were some products there that I could even see myself using.

Jedyne co chcialam to jakies szablony do modelowania brwi, moze jakis cien do brwi. Nic nadzwyczajnego. Myslalam, ze 19 dolarow (plus wysylka) to wlasnie to - jakis szablon, jakas kredka. Mialam tez kod znizkowy, zaplacilam i cierpliwie czekalam.
W miedzyczasie zamowilam dwa dodatkowe Memeboxy, ktore tylko utrwalily mnie w przekonaniu, ze raczej wole wydawac pieniadze gdzie indziej.

Moje pudelko w koncu przyszlo.
I nie wiedzialam czy mam sie smiac, czy plakac.

Tak, byly tam ze dwie rzeczy, ktore od bidy moglabym uzywac.

Again, just your overage drugstore stuff. I already have a set like that from Kanebo's M-edia line. Similarly cheap, but more suitable colors.

This was a dual tip set - a powder tip on one end, and a slanted pencil on the other.

I swatched both:

Sypki cien (puder) na jednym koncu, kredka do brwi na drugim koncu.
Tak wygladaja:

Both in a shade of mild diarrhea, which actually suits me pretty well.
Or so I thought until a few minutes later my arm started to burn.

Oba w kolorze lekkiej sraczki, ktory akurat mi pasuje.

Can you see the reddish line and the freshly forming blisters? It took literally less than 5 minutes for them to appear. I don't want to know what was in that powder. I'm just glad I didn't try it on my brows.

This was so low that even I have to applaud Memebox's chutzpah. It takes balls to stick that kind of junk in a box and call it Superbox #57 (from Memebox's description):

To takie dno, ze az musze podziwiac Memeboxowa bezczelnosc. Trzeba miec duzo pewnosci siebie, zeby cos takiego wsadzic do pudelka i nazwac to Superbox #57 i tak opisac:

Overall, this box just confirmed what I knew all along. Memebox is not for me.

True, Memebox might be a great experience for those people, who are new to Asian skincare and cosmetics. Or for those, who have too much money to burn.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), I belong to neither category.

W podsumowaniu, to pudelko tylko potwierdzilo to, co juz wiedzialam. Ze zabawa w Memebox jest nie dla mnie.

Zgadzam sie, ze dla tych, ktorzy dopiero probuja azjatyckich kosmetykow, Memebox bedzie dobrym doswiadczeniem. Rowniez dla tych, ktorzy cierpia na nadmiar kasy.

Niestety (lub stety) nie zaliczam sie do zadnej z powyzszych kategorii.
